Applications of Backwash Filters and Ultrasonic UV Disinfectors
Release time:2015-11-05
Oilfield reinjection water has stringent bacterial requirements; if no bactericidal treatment is applied during pretreatment, biofilm formation within a short period can adversely affect the performance of fine filters. Therefore, the pretreatment technology employed prior to fine filtration is critical to ensuring that the fine filter can fully perform its intended function. Bactericidal techniques—primarily involving the addition of biocides or Ultraviolet disinfectant Bactericidal treatment. Prolonged use of a single biocide can lead to the development of resistance in bacterial populations; therefore, there is a continuous need to develop new, multi-functional biocidal formulations. Organic compounds can readily be functionalized with specific moieties to synthesize multifunctional organic biocides that not only exert bactericidal activity but also provide corrosion inhibition and scale prevention. Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is a primary physical disinfection method, exhibiting potent germicidal efficacy across the 253.7–826 nm wavelength range. While UV disinfection is simple and easy to implement, it is sensitive to water quality—high turbidity and the presence of any substances that strongly absorb UV radiation in this spectral region can significantly reduce its effectiveness. To ensure high disinfection efficiency, ultrasonic–UV disinfection systems build upon conventional UV disinfectors by incorporating an ultrasonic unit. Ultrasonication leverages the fundamental principles of cavitation, acoustic streaming, thermal effects, and chemical reactions induced by ultrasound, as well as its ability to accelerate mass transfer. As a result, these systems offer comprehensive performance, including mixing, hydrolysis, oxidation, coagulation, cleaning, bactericidal and algicidal action, and scale inhibition. Consequently, the combined application of ultrasound and UV radiation enables ultrasonic–UV disinfection systems to deliver robust bactericidal efficacy while maintaining the cleanliness of the quartz sleeve at all times; moreover, they shorten reaction times and accelerate degradation rates, making them highly effective water-treatment devices for both microbial inactivation and the efficient degradation of toxic organic pollutants.
The primary objective of advanced treatment of reinjection water in low-permeability oilfields is to remove solid suspended particles from the water and to eliminate factors that could give rise to such particles. Given the stringent requirements for pretreatment in advanced water treatment, significant progress has been made in developing advanced pretreatment technologies, including ultrasonic backwash filters and ultrasonic UV disinfection systems.
Its fine filtration primarily includes: 1. Depth filtration. Depth filtration is a conventional filtration method that uses granular or fibrous filter media as the filtration medium; as wastewater passes through the media, suspended solids are trapped in the pores between the particles. 2. Microfiltration. Such filters are generally used as an enhanced pretreatment step for ultrafiltration. 3. Pre-coat filtration. Pre-coat filters consist of tubular or plate-and-frame filter elements with porous surfaces, and prior to filtration, a pre-coating material such as diatomaceous earth or fly ash is applied. 4. Microporous membrane filtration. Membrane technology is a cutting-edge water-treatment technique, with the membrane itself serving as its technological core.
However, the aforementioned precision filters impose stringent requirements on influent water quality; practical experience has shown that if the pretreatment fails to meet these requirements, the filter will struggle to perform as intended. The ultrasonic backwash-type filter achieves a high filtration accuracy of up to 2 microns. Its filter element is made of sintered 316L stainless steel mesh and, based on the pressure differential, undergoes high-pressure backwashing without disrupting normal operation, ensuring thorough cleaning. Moreover, the ultrasonic technology provides both bactericidal and scale-inhibition functions, further enhancing the effectiveness of the pretreatment process. At the domestic wastewater treatment station of the Liaohe Oilfield, the pretreatment has delivered remarkable results, and the ultrasonic filter has demonstrated outstanding operational performance.
Ultrasonic backwash filters and ultrasonic UV disinfectors play a critical role in the pretreatment stage of advanced treatment for oilfield reinjection water, thereby ensuring the smooth operation of the entire advanced treatment process.
Introduction to the Classification and Application Scope of Ultraviolet Disinfection Units:
Ultraviolet disinfectors, often also referred to as UV sterilizers, are increasingly being adopted in water treatment applications. Currently, Shijiazhuang Lingzhuo Environmental Protection Equipment Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of UV disinfectors and UV sterilizers, offers products that achieve bactericidal and algicidal efficacies of over 99.99%. Moreover, compared with conventional disinfection and sterilization methods, UV technology delivers faster germicidal action, leaves no residual chemicals, and is more convenient to use.
Common classifications of ultraviolet disinfectors:
1. Depending on the application, UV disinfection units are generally classified as flow-through UV disinfectors and immersion UV disinfectors.
2. Based on their structural differences, UV disinfection units are generally classified into two types: open-channel UV disinfection units and closed-pipe UV disinfection units.
3. Depending on the type of lamp tube, there are thermionic-cathode low-pressure mercury-vapor discharge lamps and cold-cathode low-pressure mercury-vapor discharge lamps. Thermionic-cathode low-pressure mercury-vapor discharge lamps can be classified by their external shape into straight, H-shaped, U-shaped, and other configurations. According to different requirements, ultraviolet disinfection units can be further categorized as low-ozone (ozone-free), ozone-generating, and high-ozone types.
Application scope of ultraviolet disinfectors:
Currently, ultraviolet disinfection systems are widely used in industrial and mining enterprises, residential settings, food processing, the pharmaceutical industry, high-purity water production, hotels and guesthouses, government agencies and schools, field military units, public venues, leisure and tourism industries that provide direct potable water, as well as in beverage production and other sectors where residual chlorine in water is not permitted.
Features of the ultraviolet disinfection unit:
Typically, the main body of ultraviolet disinfection units is made of stainless steel, eliminating the risk of metal-ion contamination. The unit features a sealed-container design with a quartz sleeve and is equipped with an electrical control system. It offers uniform water flow, no dead zones, optimal light exposure, thorough disinfection, low energy consumption, and flexible, convenient installation.
